Lithuanian government have completed to restore (in 1993) Kintai parish elementary school, which was built in 1705. Vydūnas lived and worked as a teacher there from 1888 till 1892.
In accordance of writer‘s birthday, there was established Vydūnas museum in this house at 1994 and worked as Šilutė city museum branch. Museum received (and is still receiving) many photos, books, letters and memories about Vydūnas from different Lithuania and other world places. There is no surprise about remained big amount of unique exhibits, because Vydūnas was very active and attentive for his ideas and creativity dispersion.
Vydūnas museum in Kintai is the only place in Lithuania, where the biggest collection of his creation and life facts exhibits are kept. Most impressive writer’s personal thing – Vydūnas harp is exhibited here as well. It was found in Talin (Estonia) and brought back to Kintai by local people in 1988.
Since 2002 museum was reorganized into Kintai cultural center. By various events and projects people continue to spread writer’s creativity and life ideas, for the reason to preserve Lithuanian cultural identity, which was one of the writer’s life objectives.
The museum also collects artifacts that tells the story of Kintai, Pomeranian and Small Lithuanian main stages of the history. In case to inform visitors about it, museum develops various educational programs, where all stories about weathervanes appearance are told and all ethno-cultural traditions are emphasized.
